There is only one person who has experienced the journey that is Australia’s Next Top Model from the very beginning and that is sassy fashion designer Alex Perry. For the past 20+ years, Alex Perry has built a fashion empire that has earned him an international reputation. His signature design style; charming, bold and provocative has been embraced by some of the world’s most famous and beautiful women including Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, Kylie Jenner, Sandra Bullock, Giuliana Rancic, Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Sarah Murdoh, Elle Macpherson, Phoebe Tonkin, Natalie Portman, Nicole Richie, P!nk, Kelly Osbourne, Eva Longoria, Miley Cyrus, Jessica Chastain, Kate Upton, Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Rihanna.
In 2005, Alex Perry joined Foxtel as the judge on Australia’s Next Top Model and it’s become one of his strongest and most successful partnerships.
The veteran of the series has seen cast members, judges, hosts and models come and go but has consistently remained the backbone of the series offering aspiring models his reputable advice and harsh but fair criticism. Starting with the judging panel consisting of Erika Heynatz, Ken Thompson and Marguerite Kramer, Alex has been there from season 1 to witness Australia’s top models created.
Joining him on the judging panel has been a huge range of celebrity guest judges, iconic Australian personalities and even creator of the top model franchise Tyra Banks.
Alex’s brand has been consistently included in the show, with many challenges revolving around the new models displaying his clothing line in photo shoots or catwalk shows.
What we love most about Alex is his inability to age and his signature look which has remained consistent over the whole series, his stylish facial hair and sunglasses sitting tightly on his head have kept his look iconic over the 12 years Australia’s Top Model has been on air.
Behind his success is an extraordinary story of a working class boy whose Greek migrant parents instilled a tremendous sense of drive and determination. For Perry, a self-confessed optimist, the road to success has been decades in the making and no matter the challenges, he always believed it was possible to create a unique Australian fashion brand the world would fall in love with.
