I don’t know about you, but now Supergirl and The Flash are on hiatus until the end of the year, I can’t wait for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow to come back! Even though the show is also not due to come back until later on in the year, there has been some very exciting casting news for the show!
Tala Ashe is joining the CW show as a series regular, Variety has learned. The actress will take on the role of Zari Adrianna Tomaz, a new member of the team aboard the Waverider – how exciting!
Zari Adrianna Tomaz is a Muslim-American from the year of 2030. However in the future, technological advances have brought about significant change to civilization but humanity hasn’t kept pace. Fear, prejudice and a lack of care for the planet have forced Zari to become a “grey hat hacktivist.” Tomaz is described as a computer nerd with a wry, combative attitude, she is a woman living a double life who doesn’t realize that she has secret, latent powers derived from an ancient, mystical source.
In the DC comics world, Adrianna Tomaz goes by the alias Isis after the Egyptian goddess. Her story is tied to Black Adam who takes her as a slave and bestows her with a magical amulet. Ooooh. She was also a citizen of the fictional nation of Kahndaq who fights against its corrupt government, specifically against Black Adam who leads the country. Eventually she becomes the hero of the story.
Ashe is an Iranian-American dual citizen who speaks fluent Farsi. She recurred on NBC’s American Odyssey and her other TV credits include an arc on “Smash,” plus “30 Rock,” “Law & Order” and “Covert Affairs.” She recently starred in the off-Broadway production of “The Profane” at Playwrights Horizons, “Troilus and Cressida” at Shakespeare in the Park and “Head Over Heels” from producer Gwyneth Paltrow and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
Season 3 will pick up with the Legends dealing with the ripple effects of their skirmish with the Legion of Doom, which caused various people, objects, and animals to be scattered across time. Rip Hunter and his Time Bureau have become the new sheriffs in town, but the heroes will reunite to fix what only Legends can fix.
