Marge Simpson

Marge Simpson

In stark contrast to her husband Homer, Marge Simpson is your stereotypical American parent and housewife. As a mother of three, her pride and joy are Bart (her “special little guy”), Lisa and Maggie. Despite her wholesome and squeaky-clean image, throughout the show’s history, she has dabbled briefly with a number of diverse careers, from a police officer to anti-violence activist. Marge has also been tempted to stray from Homer by a charming bowler, and was nearly caught into a lifetime of crime by her one-time neighbour, Ruth Powers.

Voiced by Julie Kavner.

Born in Los Angeles, 1950, Julie Kavner graduated from San Diego University. It was not until she finished studying, that she discovered she had a unique knack for comedy, and thus became an actress and voice actress. Her most noteworthy credits outside of The Simpsons include the films This is My Life, Bad Medicine, Surrender, Hannah and her Sisters, as well as providing the voices for roles in Dr Dolittle and The Lion King 1 ½.

Her unique and distinctive voice is due to a bump on her vocal chords, and has become synonymous with what we recognise to be Marge Simpson. Julie Kavner also provides the voices for Patty, Selma and Jacqueline Bouvier, on the show.
