SUPERGIRL: What To Expect From Season 5

Supergirl Season 5 is almost here!

Between the season 4 finale and the many leaked clues, trailers and rumors – it’s no doubt audiences are excited for what is to come from Season 5.

THE SEASON WILL MOSTLY REVOLVE AROUND KARA’S RELATIONSHIP WITH LENA LUTHOR.

As fans would know, CW’s Supergirl revolve around relationships and to no surprise, this season will be no different. In fact, showrunner Jessica Queller has stated that Season 5 will almost entirely revolve around Supergirl’s relationship with Lena Luthor.

“I will just say that this season revolves almost entirely around their relationship,” Queller stated at the 2019 Saturn Awards.

“If they (fans) care about the relationship between Supergirl and Lena, they’ll get a lot of it this year.”

As fans would remember, Season 4 ended with the relationship between the two in serious jeopardy after Luthor discovered Kara’s identity. Consequently dragging some brewing conflict into the upcoming season.

“I am not a villain.” Lena claims in a voiceover narration of the extended trailer.

“I don’t want to kill Supergirl, I just want her to experience the same hurt she inflicted on me.”

NEW CHARACTERS

Both Mitch Pileggi (X-Files) and Cara Buono (Stranger Things) have been confirmed to be cast for Season 5 as characters more commonly recognised in the DC Comics’ underwater civilization of Atlantis.

Pileggi will portray Rama Khan, an ancient ruler able to control all four elements (earth, wind, fire & water) in order to protect earth from humankind. Likewise, Buono will portray Gamemnae, another ancient ruler able to control humans with technology. Needless to say, both will be battling it out against Supergirl.

Other new faces to be joining the Arrowverse favourite as series regulars are Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars) and Starz Nair (Game of Thrones).

Revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, Gonzalo will play Andrea Rojas (aka Actra), “a polished businesswoman and heir to a tech empire who is making a hostile advance in the world of media.”

Likewise, Nair will play “hardened reporter William Dey. On the surface he’s a cynic and a sell-out,”

“Dey’s not interested in making friends, he just wants to get the story – but his ties to the criminal underworld could prove problematic.”

Mitch Pileggi (X-Files) and Cara Buono (Stranger Things) have been confirmed to be cast for Season 5.

BRAINIAC COULD TAKE UP A VILLANIOUS ROLE

The end of season 4 had seen Brainiac regress when tortured by the Children of Liberty. Consequently, this had rebooted his brain allowing for his ruthless robotic ancestor to take over. It is suggested these memories of fighting Lex Luthor will lead to a realisation that the only way to keep the National City safe is by placing it in a bottle.

NEW COSTUME

As fans would have seen in the trailers released by CW, Supergirl’s suit will materialise whenever Kara wills it. This season Supergirl will be swapping out her skirt and tights for a more sophisticated look that took almost four months to create from start to finish.

“The civilian clothes have upgraded,” stated Supergirl’s costume designer, Victoria Auth.

“We did a lot of armies and that kind of thing last year, but they’ve been on a trajectory to give a little sophistication to Melissa, which she has wanted.”

SUPERGIRL will premiere on FOX8 Tuesday October 8 9:30pm AEST or watch On Demand
